Roza
wood and air dry clay, January 2024.

During the latest snow day, there was a blackout.
There wasn’t a lot of light sources in the house that could be relied on other than our phones or candles, so I was inspired to make a lantern with the phone as its light source. I felt like I was living in the medieval age, so I wanted to show that in the lantern by incorporating old elements such as baroque swirls.
Much of the form is inspired by baroque architecture and William Llewellyn Griffiths’ jewelry and was made to fit an iPhone 13 Mini.
The unpleasant bright white light is dimmed with a slightly transparent piece of cloth, painting the surroundings a pleasant rose red.
The next time there’s a blackout, I'll be ready with.
